Never fuck with a horde of Beys.
Justin Vernon AKA Bon Iver AKA The Auto-Tune Auteur has seen his popularity plummet in the last 24 hours due to a terribly miscalculated action - hating on the one and only Beyonce, a woman with enough social capital to buy a person's life and sell it back for double. In an interview with The Guardian, the American indie folk hero said the following:
"You have to believe in something. Like, I’d prefer Beyoncé didn’t do a Pepsi tour. Do not take two million dollars from Pepsi and be a role model for young girls. Do not do that. That stuff does anger me. And I feel like I am not afraid to talk about that stuff."
Perhaps Mr. Vernon should have been afraid - because he got called out almost immediately by a legion of Beyonce-stans after the piece was published. Among the critical points found on Twitter was Vernon's privilege as a white man to point a finger at a black woman for making a business deal, as well as the realization that Bon Iver had a big corporate business deal with Bushmills Whiskey (a much more socially irresponsible product than Pepsi) back in 2013. Did Bon Iver just ruin himself in the circles of Beyonce-Kanye-Jay? Probably honestly. Will he still have a career after this? Probably honestly.
