It's officiously official - August 24 is 'Kobe Bryant Day' in the city of Los Angeles. Joining the ranks of MLK and Christopher Columbus, the Black Mamba has a set of 24 hours to call his own. Speaking of numbers, the date chosen for KBD is pretty badass - 8/24 (August 24) is a combo of the two jersey numbers Kobe has graced over the course of his career. Although Kobe was born and raised in Philly, the prolific ball player is a westcoast legend, spending his entire 20 year career with the LA Lakers.
In addition to Kobe's achievements on the court (5 rings mothafucka), Kobe Bryant Day is intended to celebrate the man's community contributions. Through the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation (KVBFF), the Black Mamba & Co. have been able to provide impoverished communities with help in various forms, including sports-focused leadership programs. Get you a man who can do both. Happy KBD y'all!
